Due to COVID-19 we will have reduced capacity for student learners.
Gundersen Health System Pharmaceutical Services offers a diversity of options and practice settings for student clerkships. Our acute care experiences include rotations in cardiology, critical care (ICU), general medicine, pediatrics/neonatal intensive care and psychiatry. Each of these pharmacotherapy-based clerkships includes providing direct patient care and active involvement as part of the patients' health care team. We also offer a hospital pharmacy clerkship, which is designed to provide experience in drug manufacturing, distribution and process management.
The ambulatory care clerkship allows students to provide pharmaceutical care in a retail-based environment (clinic pharmacy); students also gain experience working closely with providers in an ambulatory clinic. The pharmacy practice management clerkship provides students experience in formulary and resourced management and drug use policy.
Training Site Features
Our tertiary care medical center is in La Crosse, Wis., with numerous affiliates throughout a regional radius of about 150 miles. Gundersen is the western clinical campus for the University of Wisconsin College of Medicine. Our physicians and allied health practitioners, including pharmacists, support experiential education for students of all disciplines. We view teaching as an opportunity to influence the next generation of practitioners and to constantly improve the quality of patient care.
Applying
Coordination for site selection is completed within each College of Pharmacy. Please contact your College of Pharmacy Experiential Education Coordinator to submit a clerkship site request.
