Nursing Orientation
We’re committed to setting you up for success from day one through our collaborative nursing orientation program. You’ll feel this strong support system throughout your first year and beyond.
Your nursing orientation pathway
We want you to thrive in your new nursing position. That’s why our nursing orientation program is built on a collaborative team approach. A dedicated professional development nurse, preceptor and clinical manager will work with you to ensure all your needs are met. As you begin your journey with us, you’ll be empowered to take ownership of your orientation — building your critical thinking, autonomy and professional practice at a pace that’s right for you.
Support during orientation and beyond
Our caring and supportive nursing team takes great pleasure in helping our new nurses. We create a nurturing environment where experienced colleagues help you learn the ins and outs of your job. That strong support system remains steadfast throughout your first year and beyond, providing a nurturing environment where you can thrive.
Key parts of orientation include:
RN Professional Orientation Pathway – A tiered nursing orientation approach to help you grow in confidence, competence and autonomy.
‘WE CARE’ check-ins – A chance to sit down with your manager and professional development nurse to reflect, set goals and celebrate wins at 45-, 90-, 180- and 270-days post-orientation.
Monthly professional development nurse connects – On-the-floor support tailored to your needs. Ask questions, build skills and grow with confidence.
Mentorship – An opportunity to reflect on "how you are doing" and feeling. The S.A.N.D. (Supporting and Nurturing Development) mentorship program lets you normalize feelings as you navigate the first year on your unit/department.
Transition to Practice – We support new graduate nurses with our comprehensive 12-month Transition to Practice nursing residency program. You'll receive individualized support and professional development through six dynamic core sessions and a simulated learning experience.
New to nursing?
If you're new to the nursing profession with less than one year of patient care experience, you’ll also complete our Transition to Practice (TTP) nursing residency program as part of your orientation.
