General Surgery Sub-Internship Application
As a medical student, you’ll serve an integral part of Gundersen’s surgical team alongside our General Surgery residents and faculty.
Application requirements:
Gundersen receives more applications than it has educational placement opportunities for medical students looking for clinical rotations. Selection is determined by the overseeing clinical department and whether:
- Your medical school is in good standing with accreditation standards of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
- You must be a 4th year medical student in good standing
- You passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 on your first attempt
International students:
If you live or attend a school outside the United States, you are required to meet the above “Application Requirements” and:
- If instruction at your home medical school is not in English, you must show demonstrated fluency in English with successful completion of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination within the last two years. You must show proof of a minimum score of no lower than 104.
Affiliation agreements:
Contractual affiliation agreements for Gundersen must be in place at least 1 month before clinical placement. There is no guarantee that a contract will be successfully negotiated. Students cannot be placed or start a clinical rotation and/or project until the contract is in place.
