State-of-the-art medical education training

Used as an icehouse for the Gund Brewery in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the building has transformed into a technologically advanced center for training and education that has enhanced Gundersen Health System's reputation as a national leader in healthcare.

Simulation Lab

The new Simulation Lab within the Integrated Center for Education (ICE House) at Gundersen, which opened in March of 2024, consists of three patient simulation rooms. The rooms are furnished with realistic equipment seen within the normal inpatient setting, including patient lifts, patient monitors, nursing stations, crash carts and more, to provide a realistic experience to all learners. In addition, the space includes two control rooms with video capabilities and one-way glass which oversee the simulation rooms, allowing for instructor/facilitator and simulation technician observation. The new rooms and space are used for Gundersen staff to hone their skills as well as provide the next generation of healthcare professionals the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Surgical and Training Lab

The Cleary-Kumm Simulation and Training Lab includes a Mock Operating Room (Mock OR) and a Skills Lab equipped with four simulation tables. The Ernest Micek Family Robotic Simulation Lab is used for patient simulation, standardized patient scenarios and specialized skills training. A conference room provides space for lectures, briefings and OR observations.
