Health Care Advocacy

Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics are pleased to offer assistance from our Health Care Advocate. Health Care Advocates help with a wide variety of individual, family, and community services. If you don't know where to start to get your health care questions answered, you should call the Health Care Advocate first!

  • Navigates the health care system with you

A Health Care Advocate can assist you with:

  • Medicare and Medicaid
  • BadgercarePlus and Food Share
  • SeniorCare and Prescription Assistance Programs
  • Family Resources and County Human Service programs
  • Financial Questions about your Medical Bills, Community Care and Insurance
  • Community Education including CPR Classes, Health Fairs, Health Care Resource Presentations, School Health Education and more!

Medical Records Information

Gundersen Health System respects each patient's right to the confidentiality and privacy of their healthcare information. We will make every attempt to protect the privacy of patient information so that such information is not heard, read or otherwise shared with others for any reason other than to promote the best healthcare outcomes for our patients.

In order to disclose protected health information, we require signed authorization from the patient or legal guardian. The healthcare record is the property of Gundersen and is maintained for the use of the hospital, clinic, medical staff and for the benefit of the patient. You may request copies of your health information at anytime, with reasonable notice and payment of copying costs.

Patient & Family Services

Our Patient and Family Services staff works with patients and acts as an advocate as a member of the healthcare team. The staff assists patients and family in:

  • Discharge planning
  • Advance directives
  • Access to a wide range of available resources
  • Offer consultation in emotional, social, financial, family and health concerns.

Senior Meals Program

The Vernon County Unit On Aging Meals Program meets at Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital. Interested seniors can purchase tickets daily at the Gundersen St. Joseph's meal site or contact the Vernon County Unit on Aging. The suggested donation is $3.50 per ticket. For reservations, call (608) 489-8155 48 hours in advance.

Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years old or older, be discrete and dependable, have a positive and welcoming attitude and provide at least four hours of volunteering per week.

Applicants must also be able to pass a background check, health assessment and volunteer training program.
