Small-town doctor makes big move to Wonewoc

Richard Shoskey, MD

Rural Michigan physician Richard Shoskey, MD, is embracing his new home with Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics Wonewoc-practicing the family medicine he loves to provide.

Dr. Shoskey offers the full scope of primary care to Wonewoc area patients. His focus is on disease prevention and helping patients manage chronic diseases.

"I am really looking forward to meeting people in town and fostering many relationships," says Dr. Shoskey.

He was born and raised in Northern Lower Michigan, in the small town of Petoskey, then Traverse City, where he served his medical residency at a mid-sized health system. Later, he was in private practice in the small Michigan town of Crystal Lake.

"I was drawn to Gundersen, and specifically this area, as I really do have a passion for small town living and small town medicine," he says. "I enjoy the challenge of providing a wide range of services and having my skill set and comfort zone pushed. I also really appreciate the fact that when if I need help, the hospital here is well connected with a very large multi-specialty group that offers anything I and my patients might need."

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Shoskey loves being around his wife, Dana, and their young ones: Eliza and Hazel.

"When I'm not spending time with them, I enjoy tennis, golf, baseball, cooking/grilling, brewing beer and roasting my own coffee beans," says Dr. Shoskey.
