New Working Through Grief program offers support for those coping with loss

Monday, August 25, 2025

A new, six-week Working Through Grief program is being launched to support community members who are navigating life after the loss of a loved one. The program is jointly facilitated by Emplify Health by Gundersen Friendship Hospital and Adams County Health and Human Services Aging and Disability Services.

Sessions begin on Sept. 11 and will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Thursday until Oct. 16. The program was developed by Emplify Health by Gundersen’s Resolve Through Sharing department, a national and international leader in grief education.

The program will provide a safe, supportive space for participants by exploring the grieving process, learning suitable coping strategies and connecting with others who have faced the challenges of losing a loved one.

“We want to create a place where people feel seen and supported,” said Donna Richards, RN, one of the program’s facilitators. “Grief looks different for everyone. Our goal is to provide resources and reassurance that no one must go through it alone.”

The program will also provide attendees with a grief resource handout, featuring information on area support groups, local services like Friendship Connection, hospice organizations, and trusted online resources.

“We hope participants will find a way to move forward,” said Diane Roekle, RN, co-facilitator “We want to make it easy for them to express their feelings.”

The program is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. Space is limited; registration is required, and refreshments will be served.
