We are excited to announce the selection of two new Medical Vice Presidents to continue the tradition of strong medical and administrative leadership for our community and region.
Robyn Borge, MD, is the new Medical Vice President for Cross-Functional Care, and Robert Holness, MD, is the new Medical Vice President for Community Care. Dr. Borge and Dr. Holness will transition to their new roles January 1, 2024.
Robyn Borge, MD
In her more than 20 years at Gundersen, Robyn Borge, MD, Family Medicine, has used teaching and innovation to support clinical practice.
"Education, continued innovation, growth, collaboration, and community outreach to support our mission and strategy are needed now more than ever. I’m very excited to be a part of this challenging and rewarding work to impact our future,” Dr. Borge shares.
In addition to her practice in Family Medicine, Dr. Borge is program director and a founding member of the Gundersen Family Medicine Residency Program. In this work, Dr. Borge supported and shaped the experiences, skills, and attitudes of future doctors to serve people and communities.
The Family Medicine Residency Program has seen approximately 50% of graduates sign on with Gundersen under Dr. Borge’s leadership. The team has also taken a community lead in caring for people experiencing homelessness though the Gundersen Street Medicine Program. Dr. Borge and the medical resident team have also created great relationships with students and families at Hamilton Elementary, Gundersen’s La Crosse Campus neighborhood school.
Dr. Borge has served on the Gundersen Board of Trustees and Medical Governors, and the Wisconsin Medical Society Board of Directors. She is medical director for the La Crosse County (Wisconsin) Health Department, a member of the La Crosse County Medical Society and a volunteer physician at St. Clare Health Mission in La Crosse.
Robert Holness, MD
A love for a challenge and connection to community have guided Robert Holness, MD, OB/GYN, in his practice and in life.
“When I moved my family from Atlanta, Georgia, to Tomah, Wisconsin in 2014, I quickly realized ‘community’ would look and feel very different. But this excited me,” Dr. Holness reflects. “I enjoy helping folks meet challenges in life and in care, and to help them grow personally. This is always important to me, in the hospital, in the clinic, at home and in the community.”
Along with establishing Gundersen’s first OB/GYN practice in Tomah and serving as section chair for the team, Dr. Holness has served on the Tomah Executive Committee as a liaison to help guide processes for outreach surgery, credentialing and more. Dr. Holness also serves on a Gundersen committee to provide medical oversight for regional and strategic projects.
A native of Jamaica, Dr. Holness was chief resident for OB/GYN while at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Holness’ wife and four children are what he calls “his life’s center.”
