Family Medicine Residency
We’re proud to offer an innovative, full-spectrum residency program that provides outstanding training with a unique rural focus. You’ll graduate after three years together prepared to deliver comprehensive care to patients of all ages.
Overview
Grow into a full-scope physician training alongside respected leaders in our physician-led, integrated medical system in the beautiful driftless region. You will become proficient in ambulatory care, point-of-care ultrasound, inpatient medicine, obstetrics and pediatrics with core rotations in more than a dozen practice areas. Our collaborative learning environment focuses on evidence-based medicine and the importance of wellness. Additionally, we provide opportunities to tailor your educational experience to match your career goals.
Clinical experience
Our Family Medicine residents undergo specialized training in outpatient procedures, sports medicine, substance use disorder management, gender-affirming care and osteopathic manipulative treatment, all in your own continuity clinic. With our curriculum, you can expect flexibility in obstetrical training and optional rotations at Gundersen’s rural sites, where you’ll care for patients alongside surgeons and specialists. If your career goals include providing obstetrical care, we can tailor your rotations to optimize your obstetrics experience, with recent graduates helping with more than 150 deliveries. During our time together, we’ll support your research goals that will change the lives of those who depend on us for care.
Supportive environments
We strive to create vibrant, diverse practice and learning environments where you will acquire the skills, knowledge and approaches needed to provide safe, patient-centered care. You’ll have the guidance and supervision of our expert faculty and functional teams who are relentlessly committed to caring, learning, innovating and improving the quality of your education.
Partnership
We have a strong history of collaboration with the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (UW-DFMCH), partnering on the UW-DFMCH Graduate Medical Education Committee, participating in the statewide osteopathic collaborative, sharing curriculum and creating opportunities for residency clinical rotations. In addition, collaborating with UW-SFMCH provides our program faculty with academic appointments at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
