Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics welcomes Gundersen optometrist Andrew Nahas, OD, to its Hospital Board.

Dr. Nahas joins the 11-member group of system representatives and community members that sets Gundersen Boscobel's mission, vision, policy and strategy. It also reviews reports from the administrator and senior leaders and assesses the quality and safety of care and work to ensure that a successful business is being managed.

As a system representative and community member, Dr. Nahas brings a unique perspective to the board. He currently practices at the Gundersen Vision Clinic in Viroqua but lives in Boscobel and his children attend school in Fennimore.

"I am honored to serve on my community hospital board with a unique significance" Dr. Nahas said. "It is a way to give back to my employer while also making a difference in my community. Additionally, since my practice is in a regional setting similar to Boscobel, there are a lot of similarities we can share while improving the communities."

Dr. Nahas received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 1994. He joined Gundersen Health System in 1999.

"I wanted to practice in a small town," he said. "I wanted the opportunity to build relationships with my patients and that's what the decision to join Gundersen Health System has allowed me to do."

His practice includes the treatment and management of ocular diseases, general optometry, geriatrics, disease and trauma, low vision, pediatrics, contact lenses and refractive surgery.

Dr. Nahas currently serves as the regional optometry section chair for Gundersen, secretary for the Wisconsin Optometric Association, member of the American Optometric Association and is certified by the American Board of Optometry. He also is a member of the Boscobel Area Lions Club and Boscobel Airport Commission. He and his wife, Vicki, have two children.

"Dr. Nahas is a solid addition to the board," said Board Chair Jerry Berge. "He knows Gundersen and he also knows our service area well, so he has been able to get up to speed quickly. Our members have unique voices and perspectives and unique circles of influence, and Andy's is especially unique."
