Our Nursing Research department promotes scholarship while providing recognition and reward for staff who wish to become established experts in their research and evidence-based practice.
The department, which resides within Gundersen Medical Foundation, provides consultation to Gundersen nurses, faculty and students throughout the development of their programs of research, including assistance with design, measurement, statistical and qualitative analysis, and computer applications.

Dahlberg Scholar Award
The annual Dahlberg Scholar Nursing Lecturship was established in 2001 in gratitude for Dr. Philip J. Dahlberg's outstanding leadership at Gundersen.
Philip J. Dahlberg, MD, joined Gundersen Clinic in 1977. During his medical practice and administrative tenure, Dr. Dahlberg served on Gundersen’s boards of trustees and governors, as well as Gundersen Health Plan and Health Science Consortium boards. Dr. Dahlberg also authored more than 34 scientific publications and book chapters. In 1995, he was named president of the newly formed Gundersen Lutheran and later became its chief executive officer.
The Dahlberg Scholar Award, presented annually at Nursing Research on the Green, is supported by Gundersen Medical Foundation's Philip J. Dahlberg, MD Nursing Lectureship Fund.
Summer Research Fellowship for Student Nurses
The Student Summer Research Fellowship was established in 1985 to encourage students with an interest in pursuing a healthcare profession to engage in research. Gundersen Medical Foundation has 11 endowed fellowships, one of which is reserved for projects in nursing.
