We take the 'oi' out of joint pain
Does the pain from joint damage or injury have you exclaiming "OI!" when you try to move, sleep or go about your daily activities?
The Orthopedics team at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics Whitehall can help turn that around.
"The medical needs of patients with orthopedic problems can often be chronic and require ongoing care and appointments. By bringing specialized orthopedic care closer to patients in their hometown communities, we can better serve them," states Gundersen orthopedic surgeon Edward Riley II, MD, who cares for patients at Gundersen Tri-County.
Dr. Riley has special interest in knee, hip and shoulder replacement, but along with orthopedic physician assistants Chad Rudie, PA-C, and Caroline Peterson, PA-C, he also sees patients for more common orthopedic conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tears, sprains and strains, arthritis and dislocations.
"Treatments are based on a patient's age, condition of the joint, pain, function and lifestyle. We generally start with more conservative therapies such as antiinflammatory and pain medications, injections, physical therapy or a brace. When these treatments are no longer effective, surgery may be the next best option," Dr. Riley explains.
When surgery is needed, Dr. Riley and his team use the least invasive treatments possible such as arthroscopy for knee, hip and shoulder problems. This minimally invasive surgical technique uses a tiny camera called an arthroscope to examine or repair the tissues inside or around the joint. Procedures like these usually mean less pain and quicker recovery.
In addition to orthopedic surgery, Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics also offers related services such as physical therapy and rehabilitation.
