Need help paying your medical bills?
You may qualify for financial assistance
As a patient at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, one conversation in person or over the phone could reduce your healthcare costs.
"We want to determine a patient's full needs," says Stacy Sokup, supervisor, Gundersen Tri-County Patient Financial Services. "We encourage everyone who receives services with us to ask about our Financial Assistance Program.

Whether you have no medical coverage or have coverage that leaves you with difficult-to-pay balances, we'd like to see if we can help."
With many medical insurance plans and federal benefits (e.g. Medicare) offered today, individuals may find themselves with unexpectedly high personal balances. Often people assume they won't qualify for financial help, yet that's not always true.
"By talking with us for just a few minutes, we can usually gather enough information to determine if it's a good idea for a patient to apply for the program," Stacy says.
"One advantage of being a small facility is that patients know where to go to have one-on-one conversations," says Roxane Schleich, chief financial officer, Gundersen Tri-County.
"We collaborate with Gundersen Health System to look at an individual's charges holistically. This gives us consistency and better service for the patient so we can meet their needs."
The Financial Assistance Program applies to current outstanding balances and costs for upcoming emergency and medically necessary healthcare services. Services that are not medically necessary are not eligible for assistance, such as cosmetic services.
"Our mission is to serve our region as a trusted place for compassionate care," Roxane says. "We're committed to providing that care to individuals regardless of their ability to pay. We look forward to starting conversations with our patients to see if and how we can help them."
Please note: The Financial Assistance Programs at Gundersen Tri-County and Gundersen Health System (based in La Crosse) are separate and unique to each organization. It is possible to complete one application for assistance to be considered by both sites.
