Dr. Matthew joins Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics
Gundersen St. Joseph's is proud to welcome Robert Matthew, MD, to their medical staff.
Dr. Matthew will provide full spectrum primary care at Gundersen St. Joseph's Clinic in Hillsboro, joining the team of Richard Shoskey, MD; Andrea Anderson, PA-C; and Sue Borchardt, NP.
A native of Chicago and with over 15 years of experience caring for patients in Madison, Dr. Matthew is excited about this new chapter in his medical career. "What attracted me to Gundersen St. Joseph's was the opportunity to practice rural medicine," says Dr. Matthew. "I feel that in rural medicine a provider has the time to truly get to know their patients and advocate for their health. Gundersen St. Joseph's was a great match for me because of their excellent standards and approach to healthcare."
Dr. Matthew is a primary care provider with special interests in skin cancer, abscess, biopsy as well as women's health and working with special age groups including pediatric and geriatric patients. Outside of medicine, Dr. Matthew enjoys the great outdoors, biking, hiking and spending time with his wife and four children.
Dr. Matthew's wife, Julie, is a special education teacher in Madison. The two met during the late 80's while working in the U.S. Peace Corps in Morocco working with kids with visual disabilities in rural areas of the country. After his time in the U.S. Peace Corps and completing his bachelor of science degree at Loyola University, Chicago, Dr. Matthew gained his doctorate from Rush Medical College, Chicago in 1999 followed by a residency at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
