Saving money now and into the future
Before a single wall was drawn, weeks of analysis went into determining which departments work together often and where services and assets can be shared, reducing the need for duplication and waste.
By building efficiencies into every possible department, Gundersen St. Joseph's will continue to protect its hard-earned financial stability and fulfill the mission of Gundersen Health System by doing our part to control the cost of healthcare.
Strategic thinking by employees saves $500,000 per year
One example of the types of decision making during the planning phase revolved around the proximity of the nurses stations to the inpatient wing and emergency room.
By positioning these two stations in close proximity, nurses from both departments can flex to provide assistance where needed. If the emergency room becomes busy, nurses from the inpatient wing can provide assistance and vice-versa.
This example alone provides an annual saving of approximately $500,000 in costs related to staff, employment and resources. This is one of many examples where strategic thinking by employees, with years of first-hand experience, has resulted in large savings for the project.
Like a pebble, Gundersen St. Joseph's is well-rounded, streamlined and well-traveled. The nine-month design process pulled together staff from every department, leveraging the experience of the entire staff to design a facility that took advantage of advancements in technology and newer, more efficient ways of working.
This has placed Gundersen St. Joseph's in the best possible position to take on the ever-changing tide of healthcare.
The importance of shopping local
Money spent here, stays here
Revenue generated from services provided inside of the walls of Gundersen St. Joseph's allows investment in local patient care, equipment, staff, as well as the community, local businesses, schools and local charitable organizations. Simply put, money spent here, stays here.
Reinvestment in our local, rural economies
An individual's health is determined by four key factors: access and quality of healthcare services, healthy behaviors, the environment and their socio-economic status. These four key factors are at the heart of the Gundersen St. Joseph's corporate strategy. It is our mission to enrich every life through tackling issues related to these four key areas.
Revenue generated by Gundersen St. Joseph's provides funds to be able to tackle these issues at a local level, providing donations to local organizations, shopping local whenever possible, supporting our schools and local businesses, and being advocates for the communities we serve.
