At Gundersen Health System we understand that losing weight is difficult. That's why we created the Comprehensive Weight Management System. This system connects our medical, surgical and nutrition departments to help you find weight loss options right for you.
We work with each person individually, taking into consideration previous weight loss attempts, characteristics, habits, concerns, areas of need, etc. to develop a program specifically tailored to you.
Weight may be limiting your ability to enjoy life or contributing to health concerns such as:
- Heart disease
- Breathing problems
- Joint pain and more
What are my options?
No matter how much you have to lose or how many times you've tried to lose weight in the past, we can help you achieve your goals for a happier, healthier life. Lifestyle modification is the foundation for all our weigh loss options. Whether you choose surgical or non-surgical options, we give you the knowledge, tools and confidence you need to maintain your healthy lifestyle for long-term results.

Bariatric Surgery options
Minimally invasive gastric bypass - A small pouch is created from the upper portion of your stomach so you can't eat as much food. Also, part of your small intestine is re-routed so you don't absorb as much food.
Adjustable gastric banding - An adjustable band is placed around the upper part of the stomach, creating a smaller stomach pouch and restricting the amount of food a patient can eat.
Sleeve gastrectomy - About 85 percent of the stomach is removed, reducing the amount of food you can eat before you feel full.

One-on-one counseling - Meet with a registered dietitian to better understand information about special diets and disease prevention. You will also learn ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve your nutrition goals.
Counseling with a Behavioral Health therapist - A therapist will work with you to lessen the impact that weight issues have on your physical and mental well-being.
Orbera Intragastric Balloon procedure - A soft balloon is placed in your stomach to encourage portion control. Then our experts develop a diet and exercise program that is tailored to fit your needs.
Prescription or over-the-counter medications - When weight loss surgery is not the right choice, weight loss medications may be an option. Our experts will discuss the medications available to you as well as any potential side effects or complications that may arise.
Medically supervised meal replacement program - Our 10-month meal replacement programs may be a good fit for those who aren't candidates for or choose not to have weight loss surgery. You will develop skills in meal planning, regulation of hunger and fullness and self-monitoring.
Custom exercise program - Our exercise programs combine exercise, education and socialization to help you reach your health goals. We work with you to develop a plan that fits your needs and lifestyle.
