Welcome to our Baby-Friendly Hospital

Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse is proud to be certified as the only Baby-Friendly Hospital in the Coulee Region. Formed by World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 1991, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer pregnant women, mothers and newborns an optimal level of support for breastfeeding. Gundersen has been a certified and trained Baby-Friendly Hospital since 2008.

What does this mean for you?

You'll find baby experts at Gundersen who are committed to helping you breastfeed and give your baby the best start in life. For example, they will help you initiate breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth, encourage feeding on demand and allow your baby to "room in" so you are together during your hospital stay. A certified lactation consultant will see you in the hospital and will continue to provide support by phone or outpatient consultation after you go home.
