Explore our Adult Partial Hospitalization Program
Our Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the only behavioral health option in the La Crosse area designed to help adults address intense stress or mental health challenges. Through a combination of individualized care, group therapy and practical skill-building, this treatment will help you regain balance and stability by providing coping strategies to improve your emotional well-being. Our team will work closely with you to create a plan that supports your unique goals and helps you feel more in control.
What to expect for your Adult PHP therapy
When you begin the program, you will work with our team of providers who understand that everyone’s path to healing is different. Each day will include a mix of sessions and activities to help you manage emotions, reduce stress and strengthen resilience skills in a therapeutic environment. You’ll attend the program at the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit during the day and return home in the evening. Throughout the day, your care team will check in regularly to track progress, adjust your plan and help you feel supported every step of the way. On average, patients participate in the program between 10 and 15 days.
Your pathway to care
Your journey to join our program starts with pre-screening over the phone with a treatment coordinator to ensure this program is appropriate for you. They will share program details, including participant expectations. If this type of treatment appears to meet your needs and you are willing to fully commit to the program, we will schedule your intake appointment with a psychiatric provider. If the provider confirms you qualify for admission, you will start the program on the same day as your intake appointment.

What is the treatment process like in the Adult PHP?
- Start date: You’ll begin group sessions the same day as your intake with the psychiatric provider.
- Duration: You can expect to participate in this program for 10 days (25 hours per week).
- Hours: Programming is offered Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We'll have a break for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. each day. Once groups conclude at 3 p.m., you will leave for the day.
- Individual support: You will have individual therapy and psychiatric appointments, approximately once a week. If long-term care is needed, the program coordinator will help connect you with continued therapy.
- Discharge process: Discharge planning starts on day one to ensure referrals or follow-up appointments are in place (for example, transitioning to a shorter program) so that we have time to get appointments set.
After finishing the program, we will provide you with a certificate of completion. We’ll also work with you to develop a plan for ongoing support. This may include continuing outpatient therapy, connecting with community resources or using your new skills to manage daily life. Our goal is to help you transition smoothly and maintain the progress you’ve made.
