Please note you can easily manage MyChart Communication Preferences for both proxy and teen accounts to get important messages when and how you want them.

Proxy access: manage medical records with ease

Proxy access is a feature in MyChart that allows an officially designated individual, such as a parent, guardian, caregiver or support person, to access a patient's health information and manage care on their behalf, as well as their own, from the same MyChart account. Proxy access can be stopped at any time by the proxy or patient.

Through MyChart, a proxy can be granted two types of access:

  • Full access: The proxy can see and manage almost all of the patient's health information and features available in MyChart, similar to what the patient sees.
  • Limited access: The proxy can view a smaller set of information and features, such as basic appointment details or certain test results, but not the full record.

Proxy access for parents & guardians

Proxy access allows parents and legal guardians to oversee their children’s health records online. It simplifies tasks such as scheduling appointments, viewing test results and communicating with your child's care team.

As a new parent, you’ll automatically be given proxy access to view your baby’s health record, helping your family stay connected from the start.

Please be aware that access may change as your child enters their teenage years. For children aged 13 and older, parents or proxies will have limited access. This means you will be able to view visit information, but sensitive notes will not be visible.

Proxy access for caregiver or support person

Share your MyChart information with someone who helps you manage your care. Adults (18+) can authorize another person, such as a caregiver or support person, to access their MyChart account to assist with their care needs.

This is often for caregivers helping older patients or adults who need help from family members assisting with medical appointments or medications.

How to get started with proxy access

Teen MyChart: Take ownership of your health

Teens ages 13 to 17 can have their own MyChart account. This gives teens more independence and the ability to communicate with their care team. They will also be able to see everything in their MyChart account other than billing and estimates.

Parents and guardians will continue to have proxy access to their teen’s MyChart account until the child reaches 18 years old. Please note sensitive information and visits may not be visible to parents or proxies.

How to get started with Teen MyChart

Teens can be given their own MyChart account with a parent’s or legal guardian's consent. The teen can view and schedule appointments, message their care team and review private health information securely.

Ask your parent or guardian to help you sign up

Activate your teen account

Once consent is received, an email is sent to the teen to activate their account. Activation can be done by text or email. Please use the teen’s personal phone number or email, separate from the parent or guardian.
