Breastfeeding your baby
Breastfeeding your new baby is a decision only you can make as it may take time and practice, but you can enjoy the benefits and rewards of breastfeeding with help from Gundersen Palmer’s lactation consultants (nurses who specialize in breastfeeding).
Experts agree that breastfeeding your baby for any length of time will provide rewards for both you and your baby. It is common for some moms to have some problems with breastfeeding. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Most problems can be easily treated or solved.
Lactation Consultants work with mothers to prevent and treat many common breastfeeding difficulties such as:
- Latching difficulties
- Painful nursing
- Sore nipples
- Weight gain issues
- Milk supply issues
- Breast pump education
Lactation consultants provide education and support throughout your pregnancy, during your hospital stay, and after you've gone home. Lactation consultants are available by appointment at Gundersen Palmer.
