Susan Lundsten receives 2019's Healthy Living Hero

Wellness specialist named 2019 Healthy Living Hero

The La Crosse County Healthy Living Collaboration named tobacco-free living champion Susan Lundsten as a 2019 Healthy Living Hero.

Susan, a Gundersen Wellness Education specialist, has been an advocate for tobacco free living since 2003, supporting patients in their tobacco cessation journey by providing individual wellness coaching and the First Breath program for expectant mothers. She also coordinates provider training and supports clinicians with the most up to date training on tobacco cessation.

"Her work with Gundersen's tobacco-free campus helps patients, families and the community live up to its mission to improve the health of the community we serve," says La Crosse County Health Education Division Manager Paula Silha.

The Healthy Living Collaboration focuses on chronic disease prevention by addressing lack of physical activity, poor eating and tobacco use. Annually, it recognizes community champions for work in its priority areas.

"It is wonderful for Gundersen Health System to be recognized for its efforts connecting patients who use tobacco with the available resources to help them quit. It also continues to be involved with community initiatives for tobacco control and prevention and tobacco awareness," Susan says. "I think the creation of the video, Know More About Vaping, demonstrates the collaboration that occurs within our community. This topic affects our community and beyond."

Also honored as 2019 Heroes are Terry Erickson, retired executive director of the Boys and Girls Club who at age 70 Terry continues to set an example of living healthy, and Grow La Crosse for its work connecting children to healthy food and nature.
