Annual pregnancy and infant loss walk will be held online Oct. 10
A Walk to Remember is an annual event honoring babies who have died and raising public awareness about perinatal loss (miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth and newborn death).
Gundersen Health System and Resolve Through Sharing are sponsoring this year's local event, which will be held Oct. 10 via Zoom. There is no cost to participate but registration is required. All ages are welcome.
The Zoom meeting opens at 9:30 and the program begins at 10 a.m. with a reading of the mayor's proclamation and a story about loss. Participants will engage in a guided reflection and closing ritual before an invitation to walk privately to honor babies who have died.
Resolve Through Sharing, a program of Gundersen Medical Foundation, was a sponsor of the first remembrance walk, held in Chicago in 1986. October was designated as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in 1988. Nationwide, bereaved parents light candles at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 as another way to honor their babies who have died.
