Gundersen La Crescent Clinic welcomes family nurse practitioner

Friday, October 13, 2017

Medicine runs in the family for Becca Meinertz, FNP, the newest Family Medicine nurse practitioner at Gundersen La Crescent Clinic. Meinertz provides the full scope of care for clinic patients of all ages.

"I grew up in a family that worked in healthcare," says Meinertz. "I was exposed at an early age to nurse practitioners. I knew I wanted to help people."

She comes from Bowman, N.D., and still has family in the Peace Garden State. However, she has worked and treated patients as a Minnesota nurse practitioner for at least six years.

"As a nurse I enjoyed taking care of people," says Meinertz. "However I always saw patients when they were sick, in the hospital. As a nurse practitioner I am able to take care of ill patients as well as help with health promotion and wellness education, about which I am passionate. I now can help patients along all aspects of their lives, and I find this very fulfilling."

When not caring for patients, Meinertz likes spending time outdoors, running, walking her dogs, hiking and downhill skiing. She notes the challenging terrain: "Minnesota and Wisconsin have more hills than North Dakota," she quips. But she also loves baking, spending time on the river reading while her husband fishes, and time with family.

"I am looking forward to working with patients of all ages, getting to know them and being part of the community in which I now live," says Meinertz. "I have been part of a larger health system in the past. Working in the La Crescent Clinic will give me the resources of a large health system, yet the atmosphere of a community clinic. I appreciate the values that Gundersen has."

Meinertz joins Carrie Gerhard, MD; Duane Undeland, MD; Joe Caron, MD; and Lisa Nutter, NP, in practice.
