When Katie Kindschy was in high school, she watched her dad undergo a heart transplant. Today, more than 20 years later, her dad – now a grandfather, affectionately known as Papa – is watching her provide care for others.
“I thought the world of medicine was amazing. I wanted to give back and care for others like so many people did for my dad,” Katie says.
Katie, a physician assistant at Gundersen Health System, originally started practicing at another healthcare system where she worked in cardiology.
“I loved my job, but when my husband and I began to grow our family, I needed a better balance,” the mom of four says. “I’m so grateful for that foundational experience. I believe it makes me a better provider.”
Katie now practices in plastic surgery at Gundersen. She and her family moved back to the La Crosse area last summer. She’s now able to see her dad – and her kids can see their Papa – on a regular basis.
“It’s been great to be closer to family – especially my dad.”
