Need help paying your medical bills?

You may qualify for financial assistance

As a Gundersen Health System patient, one simple phone call could reduce your healthcare costs.

"We encourage everyone who receives services with us to inquire about our Financial Assistance Program," says Rachel Wilson, financial counselor, Gundersen St. Joseph's. "Whether you have no medical coverage or have coverage that leaves you with difficult-to-pay balances, we'd like to see if we can help."

With many medical insurance plans and federal benefits (e.g. Medicare) offered today, individuals often find themselves with unexpectedly high personal balances.

Rachel and financial counselors across Gundersen meet with patients daily to discuss the Financial Assistance Program. Often people assume they won't qualify for financial help, yet that's not always true.

"By talking with us for just a few minutes, we can usually gather enough information to determine if it's a good idea for a patient to apply," Rachel encourages.

The program applies to current outstanding balances and costs for upcoming emergency and medically necessary healthcare services. Services that are not medically necessary are not eligible for discounts, such as cosmetic services.

"We're a non-profit organization, and our mission is to serve our region as a trusted place for compassionate care. We're committed to providing that care to individuals regardless of their ability to pay, Rachel says. "I've received letters from patients, thankful to have their balances lowered. I've seen the relief from a wife whose husband was just diagnosed with cancer and we were able to approve a discount for them. It's awesome to be able to help people."

Individuals are welcome to set an appointment with Rachel or one of her colleagues or to just walk in. Call or visit today:
