Foot pain? Gundersen Tri-County has relief
Devin Simonson, DPM, draws parallels between his experiences in north central Minnesota and communities in Trempealeau County.
"I'm from the Midwest. The Whitehall area reminds me of Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, where I have family," Dr. Simonson says. "It has that comfortable feel."
The Gundersen Health System Podiatry specialist brings a comfortable approach to care for patients at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
Dr. Simonson offers treatment for common foot ailments, including ingrown or infected toenails; tendonitis; ankle sprains; and soft-tissue growths, like warts and cysts.
Plantar fasciitis is another foot problem Dr. Simonson sees often among patients, which has a variety of treatment options, depending on the severity of the patient's condition.
"This is a common overuse injury of a ligament on the bottom of the foot that helps support the arch. Patients with plantar fasciitis will often notice sharp pain in their heel when they first rise to their feet in the morning or after they have been seated for a long period of time at work, for example," Dr. Simonson says.
Dr. Simonson also offers same-day surgery for conditions like hammer toes, where one or more toes bend or curve abnormally, and bunions, painful bumps that can form at the base of the big toe.
"We offer newer technologies, like an implantable device to straighten the toe, to get patients back into regular shoes and back to normal activities in a matter of weeks, depending on their recovery plan," Dr. Simonson says. "It's also nice to save patients the drive from the Whitehall area to La Crosse and give them care close to home."
And Dr. Simonson says his colleagues are a big part of the comfortable care that reminds him of home.
"The staff at Gundersen Tri-County is just phenomenal. They are there to take care of people, and that feeling is contagious. It's an atmosphere where I really appreciate practicing."
