How to 'go green' for Earth Month
April 22 is Earth Day and there are plenty of ways to participate and make a difference.
One way is to attend the annual La Crosse Earth Fair on Sunday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Myrick Park, 789 Myrick Park Dr., La Crosse. The fair includes several vendors and various events for kids and families throughout the day. For more information, visit earthfairlacrosse.com.
Besides participating in local events, you can take steps at home to become more sustainable. Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Compost food scraps. Put a compost bin in or near your kitchen to collect your food scraps. When it's full, transfer the material to a compost pile or bin outside. Make sure to rotate the pile regularly.
- Cut back on paper/reuse as much paper as you can. Unsubscribe from junk mail or go paperless using email. Reuse one-sided sheets for notes and to-do lists around the house.
- Grocery shop with a reusable shopping bag or buy in bulk. Bringing your own containers or bags to the store and buying in bulk cuts back on packaging.
