Providing patients radiation therapy closer to home

Tomah Cancer Center at Gundersen Tomah Clinic opens

Gundersen Health System is proud to offer radiation oncology and other cancer services at our new 5,700-square-foot Tomah Cancer Center at Gundersen Tomah Clinic. Easily accessible off Interstate 90—and with a dedicated parking lot and entrance—your patients in the Tomah area can now receive exceptional cancer care in their community.

"Our new facility is capable of providing radiation therapy and up to 95 percent of the other services we offer at the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders in La Crosse," says Patrick Conway, MD, Radiation Oncology. "There are a few specialty treatments that we'll keep in La Crosse for now, but most treatments are available in Tomah."

These services include:

  • Radiation oncology, including a state-of-the art linear accelerator on-site
  • Medical oncology
  • Clinical trials
  • Hematology outreach
  • Support from social workers, financial counselors and others
  • Palliative care
  • Genetic counseling
  • COMPASS support services and resources
  • And much more available in person or via telemedicine

Having radiation therapy and other cancer care available nearer home can be life-saving for patients, sometimes determining whether they choose to undergo treatment they need.

"Radiation therapy is done daily. If patients have to drive 90 minutes or more for treatment, it can create a significant burden," Dr. Conway says. "The Tomah facility will shorten that drive for many people and ease the burden of their care."
