Creating miracles to change the future

Children's Miracle Network® (CMN) at Emplify Health by Gundersen helps children fight diseases and injuries that no one should face alone. Our mission is simple: we treat the whole child regardless of the family's ability to pay. Generous donations from people like you offer hope and fund our life-saving care and special services, medical equipment, innovative research and financial support for families when they need it. After all, we know that if we change kids' health, we can change the future.

Grant application

We know a child’s illness can be overwhelming. We also know managing the condition can be expensive. Children's Miracle Network is here to provide support for families with children facing illness, trauma and disability. We help families living in our 25-county service area, no matter where they receive care. We help provide support that is otherwise unavailable for equipment, services, technology, camps and more. We do not fund items or services covered by insurance or other social programs. Requests are subject to an income and expense assessment. Let’s see how we can help your family by reviewing our instructions on how to apply for a grant. For questions about grants, call (608) 775-5247 or email cmngrants@gundersenhealth.org.

Meet our CMN Heroes

Put your money where the miracles are

Each year, five local families champion our work by sharing their stories of strength with you. Thanks to donors like you, we've supported these kids and their families on their journeys through cancer, medical complexities, premature birth and more. They’re our Heroes – and they’ll be yours, too.

Eight-year-old Ben Appleman’s journey with Type 1 diabetes began in February of 2022, when he went to school with a slight cold. He wasn’t acting like his usual, energetic self, so he went back home in Melrose to get some needed rest. However, his condition rapidly worsened, and he was rushed to a local emergency room where tests revealed his blood sugar was over 560, indicating diabetic ketoacidosis.

When you hear that Briyelah (Bri) Root loves Ms. Rachel, books, clapping and high fives, you’d think she’s living the life of any other one-and-a-half year-old girl from Onalaska. But Bri’s life has been anything but normal.

The Buisman family is no stranger to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Each of Jake Buisman and Carley Buisman’s three children spent time there after their births. Twins Holden and Riley were born prematurely at 34 weeks and spent a week in the NICU. But Finley – also a preemie born at 36 weeks – faced more serious complications.

Luke Willenbring is a pretty typical boy by all accounts. He loves playing sports and video games, he enjoys hanging out with friends, and he wants to be a professional athlete when he grows up. But for the past couple years, Luke’s life has been anything but typical.

From the moment Sawyer Clements entered the world, he has had to work hard to reach where he is today. Just two weeks before Christmas in 2009, Sawyer was born not breathing. Because of that lack of oxygen, he started seizing and was rushed to Emplify Health by Gundersen from his home in Viroqua, where he spent the next 21 days in the NICU.
