Must be a licensed MN dental assistant. This position will support our orthodontics team every other Monday at our Winona clinic.

Job Description:

The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting dental specialists by providing diagnostic, treatment, and educational services to patients and family members. The Dental Assistant is also expected to ensure the support, safety and comfort of the patient.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Works with dental specialists to assist with dental procedures for examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures.

2. Provides education related to procedures, oral hygiene, postsurgical/presurgical for both patient and family members.

3. Provides appropriate infection control procedures, including decontamination/sterilization of instruments as indicated, environmental clean up and preparation, medical history review.

4. Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies and proper equipment maintenance.

5. Carries out miscellaneous lab, office and additional duties as needed.

6. Works with new employees to provide training and education.

7. Responsible for achieving and maintaining proficiency in the Dental Specialties competency assessment checklist.

8. In some dental specialty sections, the dental assistant may be required to act as a recorder or scribe for the purposes of drafting clinic notes in the electronic medical records of patients that are being examined for or are receiving treatment. Proper training and access will be provided to those employees.

9. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Education and Learning:


High School Diploma or equivalency


Post High School education in a specialized field: Graduate of an approved dental assistant program

Work Experience:


No experience required.


1 year previous work within a dental office, oral surgery or operating room setting.

License and Certifications:


Some positions may require Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification from Iowa or Licensed Dental Assistant(LDA) Certification from Minnesota

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.


Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification from Iowa Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.

Geriatric (65 years & older)

OSHA Category:

Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental Conditions:

Exposed to infectious diseases.
