Gundersen Boscobel celebrates respiratory therapists in October
Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics honored its respiratory therapists during National Respiratory Care Week Oct. 20-26.
These dedicated staff members are the key clinicians responsible for delivering hands on care to patients with chronic and acute respiratory conditions and critically ill patients with lung trauma.
They work alongside physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe and effective care.
Respiratory therapy includes treating diseases, infections and viruses of the cardiopulmonary system, such as lung cancer, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis and pneumonia.
Respiratory Therapy offers:
- Respiratory assessments and treatment plans
- Airway management
- Noninvasive and invasive ventilation
- Pulmonary function testing
- Sleep studies (at-home and in-lab)
- Sleep clinic
- Stress testing
- Overnight oximetry
- Home oxygen evaluations
- Pulmonary education
- Smoking cessation
Respiratory therapists are a crucial part of the healthcare team with a solid understanding of respiratory conditions and how to treat them. National Respiratory Care Week is the time we thank them for the vital role they play on the healthcare team.
