Gundersen Boscobel to celebrate Healthcare Week May 7-13

An annual national celebration known as "Hospital Week" was amended to "Healthcare Week" to include all aspects of Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics. Several activities were planned, many of which were open to the public.

The week started with a Nurse Recognition Event on Monday, May 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the Gundersen Boscobel Hospital Patio. The nursing staff at Gundersen Boscobel wanted to honor all types of nurses in the community for their dedication to compassionate, skilled care. All new, current and retired nurses from the community were invited to a dinner and recognition event. Food and drinks were provided.

The third annual Healthy Hustle 5K Run/Walk took place on Thursday, May 11, with a 5:30 p.m. Registration and a 6 p.m. Race Start Time. This was a free event, and participants were placed in drawings for prizes and also received various giveaways at the event. Jointly sponsored by the BAHC Foundation and Boscobel Pharmacy, the run/walk offered an opportunity for community members to enjoy a fun, healthy activity at no cost. The course began at the Gundersen Boscobel Hospital Bluff Street/Administration Entrance, which is also where participants reported. The course took participants down the Sanders Creek path and back. All ages were encouraged to join, with strollers welcome as well.

Healthcare Week concluded with a Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, May 13 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Gundersen Boscobel Hospital. Children of all ages were invited to be doctors for a day at this fun-filled event featuring hands on activities to teach children about different medical exams and help take the fear out of visiting the doctor. Local EMS, police and fire were all onsite for tours of their vehicles and equipment, along with Gundersen's Medlink Helicopter. Stations include check-ups, casting, family practice, lab, simulator, a snack and more. Free teddy bears were given out to all participants, which numbered nearly 150. Children were also welcome to bring their own teddy bears.

Healthcare Week 2017 at Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics lived up to the promises to be fun-filled for everyone. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for these exciting events again next year.
