Most people have felt out of breath or had trouble breathing at some point in their lives. Usually, they will blame it on being out of shape, illness or age. But for those who experience breathing problems often, it could be a sign of a larger problem. Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics Respiratory Therapy is here to help.

Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary function testing (PFT) is a valuable tool for evaluating the respiratory system and how well your lungs work. The information from the test can help your healthcare provider diagnose and/or decide on a treatment plan for lung disorders. Pulmonary function testing can be done for many reasons but is often done to evaluate the respiratory systems.
We offer two types of sleep studies, in-lab and at-home. Our team will help you determine which is right for you. Using state-of-the-art equipment, data is gathered and reviewed by a sleep specialist to determine if you have a sleep disorder.
Testing is available for:
- Sleep Apnea
- Restless Leg Syndrome
In-lab sleep studies are conducted in one of our hospital's sleep rooms. You will arrive around 7:30 p.m. to meet with the sleep technician. The test concludes around 6 a.m. The results are reviewed by a sleep physician.
With an At-Home Sleep Study, your sleep lab is your bed. An at-home sleep study is completed in the comfort of your own home, which allows for a more accurate reading of what is happening in your sleep environment. On the day of the test, you will pick-up the sleep testing device and instructions on how to use the machine. The testing device is a compact, lightweight and easy-to-use machine that monitors respiratory effect, pulse, oxygen saturation, nasal flow and snoring. This data is stored on the machine and uploaded for a sleep physician to review. Want to see how an At-Home Sleep study works? Watch the video.
