Abnormal bleeding
Many women will experience bleeding or spotting between periods at some point in their life. It’s important to understand what would be considered abnormal bleeding so you know when to see your doctor.
- Post-menopausal: Any bleeding is abnormal
- Premenopausal: Menstrual cycles are typically 3-7 days with 28-35 days between cycles. Bleeding more often should be evaluated.
- Perimenopausal: When women are perimenopausal, they can bleed more frequently but women shouldn’t assume that is the cause of abnormal bleeding. Evaluation by your doctor is needed to eliminate other causes.
Treatment options
Whenever possible, medications and non-invasive procedures are used to treat gynecological conditions. When surgery is the best option, less invasive options may be available.
