The process of trauma care for patients begins with a quick response to emergency calls and transportation to care facilities. After an emergency call is made, MedLink AIR, Gundersen Health System's medical helicopter, is in the air within 10 minutes. Ground transportation is in-route within 20 minutes.
MedLink AIR is staffed by flight nurses and paramedics who have extensive training in life-saving procedures and maintain their emergency-level certifications. A sophisticated communication system in the helicopter allows the team to maintain contact with a trauma physician at Gundersen as well as the referring hospital at all times.
