Volunteer Open House April 4 at Gundersen St. Joseph's
Gundersen St. Joseph's is hosting a volunteer open house on Thursday, April 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The volunteer open house is an opportunity to learn more about volunteering opportunities at Gundersen St. Joseph's and within the communities of Hillsboro, Elroy and Wonewoc.
The open house will be hosted at Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital in Hillsboro by volunteer coordinator Becky Walker, LMT who is also the organization's massage therapist.
"I was offered the opportunity to coordinate the volunteer program here at St. Joseph's and I jumped at the chance," says Walker, who has been with Gundersen St. Joseph's since May 2018. "This program has so much potential to improve the lives of patients and visitors, both inside and outside the organization."
Opportunities included in the volunteer program at Gundersen St. Joseph's include the respite volunteer program which was launched in September 2018. The respite volunteer program recruits volunteers and connects them with families and individuals to provide in-home support for community members with health limitations. The program will provide temporary, short-term relief to the care recipient and their caregivers and builds on the strengths and resources of the family, providing a meaningful and life-enriching experience for the recipient.
"Respite is a vital part of the continuum of supportive in-home services," says Toni Tengblad, chief of Clinical Operations at Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics. "It adds an additional level of support to families and may reduce the likelihood of caregiver fatigue."
"This is just another opportunity for Gundersen St. Joseph's to bring value to the community and act as a local community hub, providing and coordinating resources to enrich every life, every day, every way we can," adds Walker.
