The Healthy Neighbors Coalition invites you to join them for a paddle on the lake!
Summer is here and the great outdoors are calling you.
The Healthy Neighbors Coalition invites you to join them for a free paddle on Field Veterans Memorial Lake, June 26, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the boat landing at the junction of State Highway 80 and County Highway Q. Kayaks and canoes, along with paddles and safety vests, will be provided free of charge to community members who wish to take part in the event. Community members are also encouraged to bring their own if they have them. The free program is the latest in a long line of initiatives from the Healthy Neighbors Coalition made possible through grant money secured by Gundersen St. Joseph's through the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health.
"We have this beautiful lake, literally in our backyard, and we'd like to see people use it more," says Lacy Hammell, disease management and nursing education specialist at Gundersen St. Joseph's. "Hosting events like this is key to improving the wellness of our community. It encourages individuals to get out of the house, take in the great outdoors and connect with each other. It's also a lot of fun."
This is the second year that such an event has been hosted. In August 2017, the coalition hosted their first kayaks and canoes event which was a huge hit with the locals.
"This is the fun stuff we get to do," Hammell continues. "We're not only here for when our patients are sick and in need, we're here to do what we can to enrich their life and reduce their risk of disease in the first place."
