You can become tobacco-free

2018 is on the horizon and so are the many New Year's resolutions that are made. Although these are made in good faith, 80 percent fail after the second week of February. That is why preparation is key.

Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics has resources available to help you prepare to successfully quit tobacco use in 2018.

The benefits of quitting tobacco use can be experienced as early as 20 minutes after your last use, where your heart rate and blood pressure return to normal levels. After just 12 hours of no tobacco use, carbon monoxide levels in your blood return to normal and the oxygen in your blood increases. After 48 hours, your chance of having a heart attack has already begun to decrease. Indeed, one year after quitting smoking, your risk of coronary heart disease is cut in half.

Prepare to quit!

Quitting smoking and the use of tobacco products is a marathon, not a sprint, and likewise, you need a coach to help you prepare for the journey. Gundersen St. Joseph's provides tobacco cessation support and education to prepare individuals to quit smoking and use of tobacco products. The program can also help those who 'vape.'

If your New Year's resolution is to quit smoking, call the respiratory therapy department at Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics at (608) 489-8258 or make an appointment with your provider to talk about your options.

Alternatively, you can fill out the form below and our respiratory therapist will contact you.
