Playing can be very therapeutic for children. That’s why Gundersen offers a couple options for kids to still have fun while staying in the hospital.
The pediatric playroom has a variety of age-appropriate activities. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again at 1:30 to 8 p.m.
If the physician approves, kids can also play in the Elston Memorial playground that is across from the hospital’s main entrance. It includes a play tower, swings and picnic area. Parents should tell the nurse or child life specialist if they are taking their child to the playground.
If a child is contagious and is not able to enjoy the playroom or playground, the child life specialists can provide activities for the child in his or her room.
