Focus on patient experience leads to national excellence recognition
At Gundersen Health System, our staff and volunteers take patients' experiences very seriously and that dedication has not gone unnoticed. Healthgrades® recently named Gundersen's La Crosse Hospital a recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™.
This marks the 11th consecutive year Healthgrades has bestowed upon our organization this prestigious status. Our La Crosse hospital is among the top 5 percent of 3,489 hospitals evaluated across the nation in delivering positive experiences for patients during their hospital stay, for three years in a row.
Healthgrades evaluated performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collated from a 32-question survey of the hospital's own patients. These include hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2016-March 2017.
"This year's award is especially meaningful as it represents 11 consecutive years of being recognized by Healthgrades for the outstanding patient experience that occurs in our hospital setting," says Gale Kreibich, director, Service Excellence. "Better yet, to be in the top 5 percent of all hospitals in the U.S. distinguishes us as an organization dedicated to ensuring the experience is the absolute best we can provide.
Mary Ellen McCartney, senior vice president of Human Resources and who provides senior leadership over Service Excellence says that "behind this award is the dedication and hard work of all of those teams who to deliver the best possible care to our patients and their families. This award is validation that these patients witness and recognize this work."
In order to be recognized by Healthgrades, hospitals must meet eligibility requirements for consideration, which in addition to number of survey responses, includes clinical performance thresholds. Our La Crosse Hospital's performance places us among the top 5 percent in the nation.
