Degen Berglund announces CPAP, DME/HME changes, focus on pharmacy and retail

Thursday, May 10, 2018

Degen Berglund has provided a variety of services to customers in the La Crosse area for more than 30 years, including durable medical equipment (DME), home medical equipment (HME) and CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) supplies and services. But recent industry challenges have made it more difficult to provide these specific services.

With this in mind, along with a decision to focus on its pharmacy and retail business, Degen Berglund has agreed to sell its CPAP business to Family Medical Supply and CPAP Store in La Crosse. They are a long-time local business with a reputation for great customer service. Patients are being notified of the change and may receive CPAP services from Family Medical Supply or the supplier of their choice.

"While Degen Berglund will discontinue providing CPAP products and services, we have peace of mind knowing Family Medical Supply will offer a seamless transition for customers," says Mike McKee, president, Degen Berglund Board of Directors.

"We take great pride in being a family-owned and operated business," says Rick Holzer, owner, Family Medical Supply. "If Degen Berglund customers choose to receive CPAP products from us, they can expect professional service from a compassionate, experienced team."

Degen Berglund CPAP customers with questions can call (608) 775-8526 during business hours.

In addition, Degen Berglund will close its Home Medical Equipment and Services location at 4000 Mormon Coulee Road in La Crosse in late August and permanently exiting the DME/HME business. As a result of this action, Degen Berglund will reduce its staff by 30 positions starting in early July.

"Degen Berglund employees have a long history of providing customers with the best care and experience possible," McKee says. "That's what makes this announcement especially hard. During this transition, we will help employees as they look for new jobs and patients to ensure a smooth transition to other local DME/HME companies."

Degen Berglund will continue to serve existing patients through the end of August and work with local, regional and national organizations to transfer DME/HME services for patients.

It's important to note Degen Berglund pharmacies in Onalaska, La Crosse and Holmen are not impacted by these decisions and will remain open.
