Gundersen names new chief financial officer
Dara Bartels has been named chief financial officer (CFO) of Gundersen Health System, a role she has held on an interim basis since September 2015.
Bartels is responsible for financial risk mitigation and reporting for Gundersen's organization's 19 entities, maintaining internal controls and contributing to strategic planning for future system financial success.
"Dara's performance as interim CFO has been impressive," says Scott Rathgaber, MD, CEO. "She provided stability, and has become a trusted advisor through her intelligence, financial acumen, and deep dedication to our success. I am happy Dara has agreed to continue to serve the organization, and I am confident she will contribute significantly in our efforts to improve the health of our communities."
Bartels has been with Gundersen for six years, first as a director in Finance. She transitioned to the system controller in 2011 and moved to executive director of Finance in 2013.
Bartels has more than 16 years of experience in health systems and public accounting. Prior to joining Gundersen, Dara served for six years, in several roles for UnityPoint Health (formerly Iowa Health System) based in Des Moines, Iowa, including senior internal auditor and controller for one of their Iowa-based hospital systems.
Bartels is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Medical Group Management Association. She holds a bachelor's degree in Applied Science in Accountancy from the University of Northern Iowa.
