The Dianna P. Myhre Nurse Practitioner Scholarship was established in 2007 in honor of Dianna Myhre, NP, to recognize an individual at Gundersen who exemplifies excellence in nursing and compassionate care of the elderly. The scholarship fund was established by friends and family to continue Dianna’s legacy of excellent patient care, outstanding nursing values and her concern for the well-being of patients and their families at Gundersen and in community nursing homes.
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a Gundersen Registered Nurse who is continuing his/her education as a Nurse Practitioner or Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Preference may be granted to those specializing in adult and/or geriatric care. The ideal recipient will demonstrate the clinical competency and academic achievement that Ms. Myhre exemplified during her nursing career.
The Julie MacDonald Nursing Scholarship was established in November 2007 following the death of Julie MacDonald, RN, BSN, MA. Julie worked at Gundersen from 1980 until 1998, beginning as a patient care coordinator on the Rehab unit, serving as assistant administrator of Nursing for Lutheran Hospital-La Crosse starting in 1982, as vice president of Patient Care Services from 1986-1995, and as vice president of Operations, Patient Services, following the merger between the Clinic and the Hospital from 1995-1998.
In recognition of Julie’s passion for providing nursing education opportunities especially for individuals unable to attend school due to financial hardship, a memorial scholarship fund was established and two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded annually to Gundersen Associate degree nurses pursuing their Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree.
The Alice Wehrenberg Scholarship was established in 1991 upon the retirement of Alice Wehrenberg, RN, a long-time and well-respected Lutheran Hospital urology nurse. This fund has supported a variety of continuing education programs for hospital nurses over the years. From this point forward a $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a hospital nurse for continuing education needs.
The Heritage Nursing Scholarship was recently established by Gundersen Medical Foundation. To celebrate nursing accomplishments and encourage advanced nursing practice, this $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a nurse pursuing his/her Masters in Nursing: Clinical Nurse Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nursing Education.
