People who have a disability from an injury or a progressive illness may need somewhere to turn to find out if they can still work or if they need retraining. Gundersen adult disability and vocational rehabilitation has a certified rehabilitation counselor that can provide evaluation and counseling.
Gundersen’s adult disability and vocational rehabilitation works with patients who have an acquired injury such as degenerative spine disease, a back injury or multiple sclerosis. They also work with adults who have disabilities such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, learning or processing disorders, and developmental disabilities.
The rehabilitation counselor has special training and experience working with different state and federal agencies. He is recognized as a vocational expert for several agencies including the Social Security Disability Administration, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and the Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Gundersen’s adult disability and vocational rehabilitation provides formal testing to determine if a person has a disability. The rehabilitation counselor evaluates whether people can continue to work and documents when they can no longer work.
In some instances, people can retrain in a new career field. The counselor can provide information on resources that may be available to help people with disabilities get the appropriate assistance as they look for different employment or retrain for a new career.
