Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorder Center Newsletter

Since our last newsletter in the spring, we’ve been able to offer programs in the community that we’re excited to tell you about. In August, the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center held our second annual Parkinson’s Symposium. Many of you joined us at the Best Western Hotel in La Crosse to spend the day talking to other Parkinson’s patients and caregivers, getting tips for managing your disease and hearing from some of your Gundersen healthcare team.

Then in October, Gundersen Medical Foundation held the first ever Polka for Parkinson’s. The crowd spent the day kicking up their heels and supporting the Gundersen’s Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders Center Fund. It was a great event and we look forward to doing it again next year. I’m also excited to tell you about a new addition to our team, Dr. Gregory Toczyl. Dr. Toczyl is a neurosurgeon and specializes in performing deep brain stimulation in Gundersen’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center.

As you read through this edition of our newsletter you’ll find a wide array of information, from a story on a new medication option to advice for getting the most from your visit with your doctor to an important story about advance care planning and more. It’s helpful information whether you’re dealing with Parkinson’s disease yourself or caring for someone with Parkinson’s.

Please share this newsletter with your friends and family and join us in our effort to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease. Sincerely,
Sincerely,

Jason Aldred, MD
Director, Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center at Gundersen Health System
