Physical Capacity Testing

Patients who have the lumbar disc replacement surgery now have a way to tell if their surgery was successful. Before and after the surgery, Gundersen Health System assesses a patient’s ability to perform daily tasks.

The seven tests take about a half hour to complete. They help determine if daily tasks are less painful after the surgery. The tests are performed before the surgery, as well as six months and one year after the surgery. The tests will not aggravate pain. Patients can perform the tasks to their own comfort level.
