Special Agent Al Danna is presently the coordinator of the Crimes Against Children Unit for the Tampa Bay Region of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). He has been in law enforcement for thirty-seven years. Special Agent Danna has been employed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for twenty-three years. Special Agent Danna is assigned to the Violent Crime Squad and is also a member of the FDLE academy staff and instructs courses on interviewing and interrogation, and investigating crimes against children cases.

Prior to coming to work for FDLE, Special Agent Danna worked as a uniformed officer and detective with the Baltimore Police Department. As a detective, his assignment in the Criminal Investigation Division was to the Vice Enforcement Unit and to the Sex Crimes Division and he was the first detective in the history of the department to be assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit investigating crimes against children.

The last twenty-nine years of Special Agent Danna’s career have been spent in the area of crimes against children. He is a nationally recognized expert who has lectured throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America. His lectures include colleges and universities, police academies, advocacy centers, as well as national and international conferences.

Special Agent Danna is a court qualified expert and has testified for the United States Department of Justice Attorney General’s Commission on Pornography. He is the lead investigator of the Tampa Bay Child Abduction Team (CART) and was instrumental in its development and implementation statewide. Special Agent Danna currently serves as a consultant for the Hillsborough County Multidisciplinary Child Death Review Team, the Statewide Child Abuse Rapid Response Team, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of Tampa and Child Protection Education of America, Inc.

Al Danna is the president of the board of directors of the Institute of Child Advocacy, Inc. which is a private consulting firm in Seminole, Fla. He has authored an article in the USA Today magazine on child prostitution and a chapter in the Florida Juvenile Handbook that is entitled “Interviewing the Child Molesters”. Special Agent Danna has produced training videotapes for the first responders to child abuse reports and Amber Alerts.

In 2000 and 2002, Special Agent Danna was named State Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by The Florida Missing Children Clearinghouse. In 2005 he became a forensic consultant for the United States Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program in Bogotá, Columbia, where he is personally assisting in the implementation of a nationwide sexual assault investigative initiative.
