September 2017

Because of your generous donation we had our most accomplished summer to date. We wanted you to know how your help has impacted lives across the nation.

Empower Me! Child Abuse Prevention Education Kit

Over 375 elementary school students throughout Minneapolis and the surrounding areas learned about personal safety through our Empower Me! Child Abuse Prevention Education Program. In the communities of Stillwater and St. Cloud, parents were provided the opportunity to learn how to have the sometimes difficult conversations with children and teens about personal and social media safety through the Teachable Safety Skills program.

Your contribution allowed parents and children of 5 Minnesota communities to rest easier after hearing prevention education information at a Community Notification Meeting following the release of a predatory offender. We know that offenses are more about relationship than location, therefore we are able to use a highly charged environment as an opportunity to talk about prevention if any adult breaks body safety rules.

Faith leaders of various denominations in Mississippi were able to attend workshops to equip them with the tools to facilitate the end of abuse in all forms in their faith communities. Additionally, faith leaders in Litchfield learned how to better serve their populations by discussing how to recognize and prevent domestic violence and human trafficking.

Over 340 professionals attended ChildFirst® and From Trauma to Resilience trainings. Your commitment to the important work we are doing put life-saving information in the hands of individuals who have the power to make a difference.

Last month the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension requested our presence as on-site advocates for family members of long-term missing persons who voluntarily provided DNA samples in the hopes of finding answers and bringing their relatives home. Our summer picnic was attended by over 40 families who had the opportunity to receive support from others who have also experienced the joyful recovery, tragic loss, or ongoing search for a loved one. 310 client contacts were made to assist families of the missing, the exploited, and the abused members of our community.

Our work is far from over. We thank you for your support of our mission to end all forms of child maltreatment while advocating for and serving children, adult survivors, and communities. Together, we can create a world where everyone can celebrate a childhood that is happy and healthy.
