Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency

Pursue your surgical career with our 4-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. You’ll gain experience in all areas of the specialty including robust training in office-based anesthesia – confidently preparing you for independent practice in all practice settings.

How to apply

Overview

We designed our four-year program to resemble the practice of oral surgeons with a mix of primary and tertiary care experience, collaboration with head and neck specialists and extensive training in office anesthesia. Our Stenger Oral Surgery Learning Center in the Oral & Maxillofacial clinical area provides a state-of-the-art congenial learning environment at our flagship medical center in La Crosse, Wis. During your time here, you’ll author a research paper suitable for publication, and upon graduating, you’re eligible to become a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Clinical experience

You’ll gain full-scope training and experience including dentoalveolar, dental implants, trauma, pathology, reconstruction, orthognathic, TMJ surgery and some cosmetic surgery. During your PGY-3 and 4, work alongside our Otolaryngology team to learn ablation techniques and reconstruction of head and neck surgery. You’ll graduate proficient in office anesthesia and outpatient clinical procedures – fully prepared for independent practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Externship

We offer a 1-week externship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with complimentary housing. The externship is designed to give highly motivated dental students a full scope experience in OMFS in inpatient and outpatient settings. Selected applicants are integrated onto our OMFS service and provided with a firsthand perspective of residency training. Externships are open to 3rd and 4th year dental students in good academic standing. To apply, email these documents:
