The Surgery departemtn encompsses general surgery,  pediatric surgery,  vascular surgery, cardio-thoracic surgery,  general plastic and facial surgery,  otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, orthopaedic surgery,  urologic surgery and  neurosurgery.

Because of their teaching responsibilities, many of these surgeons are clinical professors of surgery at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota, the University of Iowa or the Medical College of Wisconsin.

General Surgery is divided into these five surgical teams:
Team A - Jeffrey Landercasper, MD, general, breast and oncologic surgery; Jeanne M. Johnson, MD, general, breast and oncologic surgery, Jared H. Linebarger, MD, general, breast and oncologic surgery, and Mark L. Saxton, MD, pediatric surgery

Team B - Matthew T. Baker, MD, general, bariatric laparoscopic bypass surgery, and advanced laparoscopic surgery; Brandon T. Grover, MD, general, bariatric laparoscopic bypass surgery, and advanced laparoscopic surgery; and Shanu N. Kothari, MD, general, bariatric laparoscopic bypass surgery, and advanced laparoscopic surgery

Team C - Thomas H. Cogbill, MD, general and vascular surgery;  Clark A. Davis, MD, general and vascular surgery; Mason G. Fisher, MD,  general, surgical critical care and trauma; Basem Marcos, MD, surgical critical care and trauma; Sigurd B. Gundersen, III, MD, general, vascular and pediatric surgery;  and Irina Shakhnovich,MD, vascular surgery

Team D - Eric F. Brekke, MD, general, endocrine, and laparoscopic surgery; Benjamin T. Jarman, MD, general, hernia, laparoscopic surgery, and colon and rectal; Stephen B. Shapiro, MD, general, endocrine, laparoscopic and oncologic surgery; Travis J. Smith, MD, general, laparoscopic and hepatobiliary
